UPDATE: 11:23 a.m.
When crews arrived on scene they discovered a heater in the basement with smoke and some sparks coming from it.
According to Deputy Fire Chief Brent Penner, the smoke was confined to the heater and did not spread.

The resident evacuated the home and called 911.
Penner said the resident had planned to leave the heater on when they were out, but luckily the incident unfolded before they left.
The deputy fire chief added that this incident serves as a reminder this time of year to use LED lights, especially on real Christmas trees, as the older lights get hot quickly and cause problems.
