PHOTOS: Rare pink fog envelopes Okanagan

The unusual sight was captured in pictures in Summerland, Penticton and Kelowna

Residents of the Central and South Okanagan woke up to a pink fog Wednesday morning, Jan. 31.

Many took to social media to post pictures of the rare sight that started around 7:15 a.m.

The pink and purple fog hung around for about 30 minutes before the colours turned to a light blue and then grey and white fog. Poor visibility caused by the thick fog made for a difficult drive for morning commuters.

The coloured fog is extremely rare and was also reported to have occurred in Russia in December 2023 and in the UK in 2019.

Not much is known about the pink fog but itÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s believed to be the sun rays interacting and refracting with the fogÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s water droplets.
