A long-abandoned residential project in Peachland is causing concern for safety and fire risks. 

The property at 4976 Princeton Avenue has sat unfinished for years. It was originally intended to be a 11,400-square-foot home with eight bedrooms, and a pool. Despite a building permit being issued in 2016, the home remains unfinished, and work has largely stalled since then according to a staff report going to district council on Jan. 14.

Steps to address the issue have included notifying the property owner multiple times about the need to either finish the project or obtain a new building permit. So far, the owner has not acted, despite occasional assurances that construction would resume, the report states. The property has also been listed for sale, suggesting the owner may not intend to finish the project.

Staff said the project does not have new home warranty coverage, and does not meet current building codes or the district香蕉视频直播檚 development guidelines. It also raises significant fire safety concerns, given its location in a wildfire-prone area. The Peachland Fire Department and the building inspector have flagged the structure as a risk to public safety.

The district is recommending that a Notice on Title be filed, which would inform potential buyers of the building香蕉视频直播檚 non-compliance with bylaws and the urgency to either complete or demolish the unfinished home.

If the property owner fails to act after the notice, the district could take further action including fines, and legal action.
