Lightning will continue to strike in the north and central Okanagan throughout the evening of July 25. 

According to areas in the north of Okanagan Lake are at risk of being struck by lightning. The areas around Lake Country and Vernon are shown as being in danger of lightning. 

The BC Wildfire Service also upgraded the drought level in the Okanagan to level three, meaning 'severely dry,' on July 25.

Strikes can happen whether or not a storm is in the area. When electrical storms strike without rain it is called 'dry lightning'.

This phenomenon is most common in dry areas where the precipitation evaporates in the atmosphere before reaching the ground. 

reported that over a span of five days 59 new wildfires sparked as a result of lightning strikes in the Kamloops Fire Centre.

There are currently 88 fires burning in the Kamloops Fire Centre, with 63 of the blazes considered to be out of control.
