No one home: Fire breaks out at Rutland townhouse

The fire was continued to one unit

Multiple emergency crews are responding to a fire at a townhouse complex off Highway 33 near Gerstmar Road on Tuesday.

There were reports of smoke coming from a unit just before 6 p.m.

Fire crews were seen breaking down the door of the home as it appeared the residents were not inside at the time of the blaze.

Firefighters are investigating the incident but said it appears the blaze started in the kitchen. The home did suffer damage due to the fire and the residents will need to be placed in the care of emergency services.

The fire was continued to the one unit.

One lane of Highway 33 is blocked by emergency crews.
