The Cartwright family and the exchange students living with them joined the annual Terry Fox Run in Kelowna on Sept. 15, 2024.

The annual Terry Fox Run in Kelowna was held the morning of Sept. 15.

More than 200 people gathered at Stuart Park for registration and a warm-up before starting the run at 11 a.m.

The run draws in people of all ages and offers routes at various distances so everyone can join in.

Funds raised at the 2024 surpassed $36,000 and co-coordinator Michael Humer said the Kelowna run has raised over $1.17 million since it began.

Humer is a retired thoracic surgeon and his co-coordinator Olivia Solano works in research for BC Cancer.

Together they are continuing Fox's legacy.

"We've made tremendous strides in cancer over my career, but cancer is still a disease that takes a tremendous number of lives," Humer said. "Terry's journey was that it must continue until we've beaten cancer. So, we continue to work away at it and we will continue to strive until cancer is no longer an issue."

Participants ran along Hot Sands Beach before returning to Stuart Park.
