Kelowna-Mission MLA Gavin Dew appears to have raised and spent the most money among his conservative colleagues in the Central Okanagan during the 2024 Provincial Election.
An Elections BC financial report shows Dew raised nearly $103,000 and spent just over $85,000. Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream MLA Tara Armstrong brought in $62,000 and spent nearly $39,000. West Kelowna-Peachland MLA Macklin McCall raised $85,000 and spent $35,000.
Kelowna-Centre MLA Kristina Loewen Due was given a filing extension, due to extenuating circumstances, to Feb. 18.
According to Elections BC: "If there is a surplus of campaign funds after a candidate has paid all their expenses, the funds must be transferred to the candidate香蕉视频直播檚 constituency association or registered political party if applicable. If the candidate does not have a constituency association or political party, the funds must be transferred to the Chief Electoral Officer."
The financial reports, covering Jan. 1 to Oct. 19, 2024, show that the B.C. NDP raised $7.6 million and the Conservative Party of B.C. $6.1 million. The B.C. Green Party did not file its report by the Jan. 17 deadline. They may file by Feb. 18 with a late filing fee of $500.
Under the Election Act, eligible candidates and political parties can submit claims to have some of their election expenses reimbursed.
Funds transferred to the Chief Electoral Officer are held in trust. If the candidate who transfers the funds registers as a candidate in the next provincial election, the Chief Electoral Officer must return the funds for use in that election. Otherwise, the funds are paid to the consolidated revenue fund.
