Central Okanagan RCMP officers to start wearing body cameras by month's end

Central Okanagan RCMP officers will slowly be introducing Body Worn Cameras (BWCs) at the end of January.

RCMP officers in the Central Okanagan will start to wear body cameras as part of their uniform by the end of the month.

香蕉视频直播淏ody Worn Cameras (BWCs) have become the National Standard and the Kelowna/Central Okanagan RCMP are excited to be among the first RCMP detachments in British Columbia to deploy this highly anticipated equipment,香蕉视频直播 said Insp. Chris Goebel, acting officer in charge in a Jan. 16 press release.

Back on Nov. 21, 2024, BC RCMP announced BWCs would start a roll-out phase in six communities, which were Mission, Tofino, Ucluelet, Cranbrook, Cranbrook BC Highway Patrol (BCHP), Kamloops and Prince George. 

香蕉视频直播淭hese cameras are a vital step in modernizing policing, play a crucial role in fostering better interactions with the public, enhance evidence collection, build trust in law enforcement, resolve public complaints more efficiently and support officer safety. We are excited to equip our officers with this innovative technology bringing its benefits directly to our community,香蕉视频直播 added Goebel.

The roll-out of body-worn cameras is part of the RCMP香蕉视频直播檚 modernization efforts and is the national standard for all RCMP officers across the country, said Assistant Commissioner John Brewer who oversees RCMP Criminal Operations in the province back in November.

The BWCs worn by Central Okanagan RCMP officers will be introduced slowly.
