The Kelowna Fire Department responded to a blaze at the Okanagan M茅tis and Aboriginal Housing Society apartment building in Rutland Thursday (Jan. 30) morning.
Crews were called to 150 Kneller Road (at Gerstmar) just before 10 a.m. The fire was reported on the third floor and had been put out by the time firefighters arrived.
However, the entire building was evacuated.
Platoon Captain Corrie Lang told Black Press Media that a resident put the fire out. "He's gone to hospital with unknown injuries at this time," Lang said.
He added that there was also some water damage to one unit in the building, and the power is out to that apartment.
The cause of the fire is not known.
