To the editor:
As a Canadian citizen and a practicing Christian, IÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™ve always known that I have the freedom to practice my faith as I wish. However, now IÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™m left wondering how much longer will I have that freedom, after what happened in Ottawa.
Recently this very topic of freedom of religion came up in the House in a motion. I was totally shocked when all Liberals, including MP Stephen Fuhr for Kelowna-Lake Country, voted against that motion. That leaves me wondering, what is the LiberalsÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™ next move in that motion? Then, those same Liberals brought forward a motion denouncing all forms of Islamophobia and voted in favour of it. Are they not aware that Jews are eight times more likely to be discriminated against than all other denominations? Anti-Semitism is alive and well in Canada. Why give one religion preferential treatment above all others? This issue is very worrisome to me and IÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™m sure to many others.
What is the LiberalsÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™ agenda on the freedoms we hold dear? When my fundamental rights are being threatened, I need to speak up; in fact, we all should. This is our responsibility and our right, as citizens of our great country.
