A Vernon golfer is sitting in a podium position, halfway through a major provincial tournament.
Cooper Humphreys has shot a seven over, 133 through two rounds at the 122nd B.C. Amateur Championships, hosted in Abbotsford.
Humphreys is one shot back of the leader, Vancouver's James Fahy. The 72 hole competition will wrap up on Friday, July 12.
A total of 156 golfers teed off on Tuesday, with the field being slashed to half after the conclusion of the second round on Wednesday.
The 19-year-old Vernon native won the Amateur Championships last year, shooting a blazing 14-under at a golf course in Parksville. He will be attending Oregon State University on a golf scholarship for 2024-25. Despite being born in Vernon, Humphreys calls the Harvest Golf Club in Kelowna his home.
Two other Vernon golfers are in the top 20: Landen Harison (tied for 12th with a one under) and Ryan Vest (tied for 20th at even par).
Vernon's Jayden Snitynsky was cut after a 17-over-par performance in the opening two rounds. Armstrong's DJ Crowe also competed, and was cut after a 20-over-par outing.
