UPDATE: Police shutdown Penticton street to arrest shooting suspect

The street was closed for over an hour while police surrounded the property

UPDATE 3:45 p.m.:

The shutdown of a block of Penticton's Government Street on March 12 was the result of police locating one of three suspects in a shooting six days prior.

According to a press release issued by the RCMP, one man believed to be involved in the shooting on Maple Street was taken into custody shortly after it was reported at 6:18 p.m. on March 6.

Two other suspects were identified related to the shooting, but were not located immediately.

The March 12 raid by local officers and members of the Southeast District's Emergency Response Team located one of the two suspects and took him into custody.

The final suspect was located at a different location and also taken into custody.

Firearms were found and seized during both March 12 arrests, the RCMP said, and charges are now pending.

Original Story:

One man was taken into custody after police surrounded a property on Penticton's Government Street near the hospital on March 12.

Members of the Southeast District's Emergency Response Team assisted the local detachment.

Just after 6 p.m. Penticton RCMP were seen taking one man into custody nearby.

Government Street was blocked off from Duncan Avenue to Carmi Avenue for another hour before the scene was cleared.

ERT members were seen searching around the property on Government Street, including entering and searching a detached workshop or shed near the house.

The Western News has reached out to the RCMP for more information and will update this story as it becomes available.
