Current Vernon-Monashee MLA Harwinder Sandhu is hoping for just a slight title change when the 2024 B.C. provincial election takes place in October.
Sandhu was officially confirmed as the NDP's nominee for the new Vernon-Lumby riding on Friday, July 12.
" I am committed to continue to deliver results, and to build on the progress we have made so far," she said. "Thank you for your support over this term, and I look forward to serving you again so we can continue to work hard for our community."
Vernon-Lumby is a new provincial riding, after electoral changes took place in 2023 due to population changes. Currently, Sandhu is the MLA for the Vernon-Monashee riding, She won the 2020 election by a slender 424 votes, after mail-in and absentee ballots were counted, defeating three-term Liberal incumbent Eric Foster, of Lumby.
Up against Sandhu is current Lumby Mayor Kevin Acton, who will be representing B.C. United.
The Monashee area is now under the Kootenay-Monashee riding, whose present MLA is Katrine Conroy, under Kootenay-West. According to ., there are no current nominess for the riding.
The election takes place Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024.
