KIJHL mourns loss of former player Luke Kalenuik

KIJHL alumnus Luke Kalenuik, 28, has died after several months battling cancer.

Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) alumnus Luke Kalenuik, 28, died last week, following a battle with a rare form of cancer.

On Feb. 26, his family provided an update on Kalenuik's , saying he was surrounded by loved ones in his final moments.

"We are deeply grateful to all his family, friends, and hockey community who stood by him with unwavering support, generosity, and love over the past 4.5 months," said his sister Cassie Glover. The fundraiser accumulated over $42,000 to support Kalenuik's living and medical costs while he wasn't able to work. 

The KIJHL extended condolences to his family, stating the organization is "tremendously saddened by his passing."

Kalenuik spent three seasons playing in the KIJHL, from 2014-16 with the Kelowna Chiefs and from 2016-17 with the Creston Valley Thunder Cats.

Shannon Veitch, president of the Thunder Cats and Kalenuik香蕉视频直播檚 former billet parent, echoed the sentiment that he was well-known for his positive attitude and enthusiasm.

Luke will be fondly remembered by the Thunder Cats organization and his memory will live on in Creston for the athlete and kind young man that he was.香蕉视频直播

On the , his family has provided information for a planned celebration of life to be held in Peachland, B.C. on March 15.
