Idled apartment development heading back to Peachland council

The district issued a building permit for an 84-unit apartment building in February 2023

An apartment project planned for next to Peachland Elementary School, which has been at a standstill for more than a year, is coming back to council.

The district issued a building permit for an 84-unit apartment building in February 2023 and construction was set to begin in the summer. 

However, the 2.75-acre property was listed for sale in April 2023 for $4.9 million. The price was dropped to $3.9 million a few months later but appears to no longer be for sale.

Alberta-based firm Porchlight Developments proposed the original project in March 2022. The company is also building Crystal Lake Okanagan Residences on the former ToddÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s RV site.

A new development permit for the Clements property, with several variances, was recently submitted to the district.

One variance would increase the maximum building height from 16.8 to 21.6 metres. Another asks to reduce the minimum radius of a temporary cul-de-sac on Wild Goose Street from 12.5 to 7.3m. There is also a request to locate some parking spaces off-site, or partially off-site.

Council will consider the application at a special meeting on July 16. The proposed variances and related documents can be reviewed by appointment at the district office (5806 Beach Avenue).
