Making the Tragically Hip tour documentary 香蕉视频直播淟ong Time Running香蕉视频直播 was a shotgun project of sorts for its filmmakers.
香蕉视频直播淚t started on a dime,香蕉视频直播 explained co-director Nicholas de Pencier on Wednesday during the film香蕉视频直播檚 red carpet premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
香蕉视频直播淔ive days before the first show,香蕉视频直播 added Jennifer Baichwal, the film香蕉视频直播檚 other director.
That香蕉视频直播檚 a rarity for the filmmaker couple, who previously worked together on the 2013 documentary 香蕉视频直播淲atermark.香蕉视频直播
But they say getting the chance to follow the Hip on their defining 香蕉视频直播淢an Machine Poem香蕉视频直播 tour was an opportunity they couldn香蕉视频直播檛 pass up.
The documentary follows the Canadian band as they embark on run of farewell shows and face the reality of Gord Downie香蕉视频直播檚 incurable brain cancer diagnosis.
The Hip frontman was absent from the premiere, though his bandmates Gord Sinclair, Johnny Fay, Rob Baker and Paul Langlois all showed up. They declined to speak with reporters about the making of the film.
Unlike most projects, the filmmakers say this one came together almost on the fly. Downie香蕉视频直播檚 health condition meant the band was never entirely certain if they香蕉视频直播檇 be able to complete the tour.
香蕉视频直播淣ormally there香蕉视频直播檚 a lot of preparation,香蕉视频直播 de Pencier added.
香蕉视频直播淭his was: 香蕉视频直播楴o, we香蕉视频直播檙e running away and we香蕉视频直播檙e joining the circus. We香蕉视频直播檙e on tour now and we香蕉视频直播檙e filming.香蕉视频直播 So we had to play catch up and work really quickly.香蕉视频直播
The documentary makers say knowing the Hip band members personally for 20 years helped them get accustomed to the touring atmosphere.
香蕉视频直播淚t香蕉视频直播檚 not that we wanted to do it, it香蕉视频直播檚 that we were asked to do it,香蕉视频直播 Baichwal said.
香蕉视频直播淲e all were sort of in this, 香蕉视频直播業s this really the right thing to do in this moment?香蕉视频直播 And it was, and so that香蕉视频直播檚 how it came together 香蕉视频直播 They trusted us.香蕉视频直播
