Spooky community celebrations planned for Salmon Arm

Halloween costumes urged for annual Spooktacular and Downtown Treat Trail

Two frighteningly fun family-friendly events will be back in Salmon Arm this fall.

On Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19 and 20, R.J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum hosts the 26th annual Spooktacular.

At sunset, the village will come alive with events and activities for all ages.

For the little ones, there's the magical Pumpkin Patch Path with games and treats, and the RIP Colouring Pavilion for arts and crafts. Guests of all ages can gather in the Mount Ida Church for Not-So-Spooky-Tales of Halloween, discover their fate with the Mystical Fortune Teller, take a seat for a shocking diagnosis with the Menacing Mad Scientist, stop for a photo with Professor Albus Dumbledore and try the challenging games at the Hocus Pocus Midway.

For those more brave of heart, there's the Fraser Haunted House and Spook Trail.

Guests can warm up by the fire pit and enjoy treats from the onsite food vendors.

Halloween costumes are encouraged. The event runs from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on both days and admission is $15 per person, with kids aged 4 and under free. For more information, visit R.J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum on Facebook and at salmonarmmuseum.org.

The second event, the 32nd annual Downtown Salmon Arm Treat Trail, will take place between 3 and 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31.

Created as a safe alternative to traditional Trick or Treating for young families, participating downtown businesses hand out candy or other treats to young costumed visitors.

"For over 30 years we've been hosting this in downtown Salmon Arm," said Downtown Salmon Arm manager Jennifer Broadwell, referring to the annual Treat Trail as one of the community's staple celebrations.
