Fireworks will return to Okanagan Lake to celebrate Canada Day in Penticton.

The Penticton Lakeside Resort is bringing back the fireworks to a barge set up on the water in front of Okanagan Lake Park.

The fireworks are scheduled to start at 10 p.m., after the day's entertainment and events wrap up.

Free bus service will be available for all Penticton transit routes, and there will a family-friendly outdoor party at Gyro Park from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

A free bike valet service at the park will also be available, provided by the city.

The outdoor celebration is organized by the Downtown Penticton Business Improvement Association.

Entertainment includes live music, face painting, inflatable activities, arts and crafts, yoga in the park, vendors, a beverage garden and more.

An exclusion zone has been set up in the water around Okanagan Lake Park and the Lakeside Resort in order to keep people safe during the fireworks show.

The zone stretches from the outlet of Penticton Creek and past the Kiwanis Walking Pier out into the lake. No swimmers, boaters, paddle boarders or any other people are allowed in the area.

City officials recommend other locations that will be safe and have good views of the fireworks show, including anywhere along Okanagan Beach and the lakeshore, Marina Way Park, Rotary Park, Lakawanna Park and Munson Mountain or other higher elevation areas.

All outdoor washroom facilities will be open and serviced until midnight.

City facilities including City Hall, City Yards, the Penticton Public Library, Community Centre and Museum will be closed on Monday, July 1, for Canada Day.

City Hall, City Yards and the Community Centre will re-open on Tuesday, July 2. The Library and Museum will re-open with regular hours on Wednesday, July 3, ready to welcome back patrons after a month-long closure for electrical upgrades.
