The holiday spirit of giving visited the Okanagan early with over $300,000 being raised at the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation's Winter Wonderland Gala on Nov. 23.
The funds will go towards the upgrades and expansion of the oncology department at the Penticton Regional Hospital.
香蕉视频直播淥ur hearts are full of gratitude for everyone who made this event a success,香蕉视频直播 said Ian Lindsay, CEO of the SOS Medical Foundation. 香蕉视频直播淔rom the attendees and sponsors to those who couldn香蕉视频直播檛 attend but still donated, each contribution brings us closer to our goal of providing critical cancer care right here at home. In addition to raising funds from donors, the gala recognized the support of one of the foundation's major supporters.
Gerry Turchak, founder of Nor-Mar Truck and Equipment and Brutus Truck Bodies by Nor-Mar Industries Ltd. was presented the first-ever Healthcare Champion Award for his long support of local healthcare.
Over the years, he has contributed over $500,000 to the SOS Medical Foundation, and helped raise almost a million dollars more by matching donations and being the foundation's first Giving Tuesday Champion.
香蕉视频直播淕erry exemplifies everything this award represents香蕉视频直播攊ntegrity, compassion, and leadership,香蕉视频直播 said Lindsay. 香蕉视频直播淗is unwavering dedication ensures that our community has access to the best possible care.香蕉视频直播
Although the $300,000 that was raised is a substantial amount, the foundation still has further to go towards the $10 million goal of the oncology department campaign.
The upgrades and expansion will improve access to cancer care for residents of the South Okanagan so they don't have to travel as far to receive the care they need.
The SOS Medical Foundation is inviting the community to keep the giving spirit going through the holidays, and any support, whether a one-time donation or ongoing donations, help improve healthcare for the community.
香蕉视频直播淲e香蕉视频直播檝e witnessed incredible kindness and generosity, but there香蕉视频直播檚 more to do,香蕉视频直播 said Lindsay. 香蕉视频直播淭his holiday season, as you reflect on what matters most, consider making a gift that brings hope and healing to families in our region.香蕉视频直播
