The Walk for the Children returns to Penticton next week in recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The Okanagan Nation Alliance brings the two-kilometre walk to the Safeway parking lot at 10 a.m., with hundreds of people expected to then make their way to the SIRS Monument outside the Penticton Hatchery on En香蕉视频直播檕wkin Trail.

Honouring the children who never made it home and the survivors of residential schools, the walk has been held in Penticton over the last few years.

Lunch will be provided at the monument after the walk, with priority given to Syilx IRS Survivors, Syilx elders and nation members, the Okanagan Nation Alliance said.

People joining the walk are encouraged to wear orange, blue or green shirts.

National Truth and Reconciliation Day, also known as Orange Shirt Day, is a day to recognize the legacy of the residential school system and the lasting impact it has had.

It is recognized every year on Sept. 30, and in 2023, was made a statutory holiday in B.C.
