Lance Ewan and Walter Webster stopped by city hall this week to present the mayor with a small yet abundantly symbolic gift.
In city council chambers on Tuesday, Oct. 22, the Salmon Arm Legion Branch 62 president and sergeant-at-arms presented Mayor Alan Harrison with the traditional first poppy of the local legion's Poppy Campaign.
The national campaign begins on the last Friday of October (Oct. 25), and runs to Remembrance Day, Nov. 11. Through that time, , poppies are worn as a "visual pledge to honour CanadaÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s Veterans and remember those who sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today."
Money raised through the campaign go to the , which is used for a wide range of supports for veterans, and to support community groups and individuals.
