Vernon's Valentine's for Mexico celebrates sweet 16

Sweet Smiles Society香蕉视频直播檚 16th annual Valentine香蕉视频直播檚 for Mexico supports 'forgotten angels,' children

Vernon continues to make a big difference in the lives of children in Mexico and abroad, 16 years strong.

Sweet Smiles Society founder Barrita Durward has been collecting her community's support through the annual Valentine's for Mexico Gala.

The March 14 event marks its sweet 16th year in 2025, with an already sold-out evening at the Prestige Vernon Lodge.

Funds raised from the event will benefit four separate projects spearheaded by Durward.

"With your kindness and continued support, Sweet Smiles Society has been able to help build a safe, loving and healthy environment, to these once forgotten angels," said Durward.

Three orphanages in Matanzas, Cuba and Cozumel are in need of mattresses, fridges, stoves, washing machines and gas-powered generators.

Sweet Smiles' Family Preservation-Orphanage Prevention project in Huatulco is in need of cement, mortar and materials to finish its sixth home.

"The family香蕉视频直播檚 investment for this project is 800 hours of sweat equity into the build of their own home," said Durward. "Huatulco (Oaxaca) is the third poorest state in Mexico."

Support will be extended to the new Community Meal program in Girardot, Columbia, for the hurting and homeless.

"Many youth, disabled individuals, seniors and single mothers are living in extreme poverty and need some help," said Durward. "This program is about giving those people in need a hand up, not a hand out."

The fourth project is purchasing food, kitchen appliances and supplies needed for Un Nuevo Amanecer, in Huatulco.

"This is a school for both mentally and physically disabled children, who range in age from preschool to late teens," said Durward of the school that receives very little government aid and where there is a huge need for Ensure and powdered baby formula.

While the event is sold out, silent auction donations are still needed. Those with items to donate can contact Ashley Willmot at 250-309-0552 or email
