Ann Holmes was first through the drive-thru, 11 minutes early.
The longtime Vernon resident entered the Prestige Vernon Lodge parking lot at 6:19 a.m., picked up some free items from participating organizations, then handed over some cash to volunteers and snagged the first bagged breakfast at the 22nd annual United Way British Columbia North Okanagan Drive-Thru Breakfast, held from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
Holmes' donation was the first of a steady stream of vehicles over the 2.5 hours, helping the breakfast raise more than $18,000 to support local people in need.
This success was possible thanks to support from local businesses and all the generous community members who showed up, donated, or volunteered their time.
"This year's Drive-Thru Breakfast will help fund multiple United Way BC initiatives in the region, including many that support early childhood development, youth leadership, and out-of-school time activities, like School's Out, Future Leaders, and others," said Kris Gibson, provincial director, corporate relations, United Way BC. "All the money raised in Vernon will stay in the North Okanagan region.香蕉视频直播
Donations from the 22nd Annual North Okanagan Drive-Thru Breakfast will support United Way BC School's Out program in the Southern Interior.
This initiative ensures vulnerable school-aged children have access to safe spaces during after-school hours where they can receive mental wellness and developmental support.
"School's Out has been a fundamental pillar for our family balance," says Constanza, a participant's mom from Lumby. "My husband and I are working parents, so it would not have been possible to sustain our lifestyles without a program like this. Not only does it make a big difference financially, but it's also valuable support for the family. It's a place where I trust my child, my most precious thing in life, and I have peace of mind that he is well taken care of and having fun."
