The Salmon Arm Rotary Club is spicing things up in support of initiatives both locally in the Shuswap and across the globe in Ethiopia.
Collaborating with Partners in Ethiopia, Rotary will jointly host a dinner of the country's traditional cuisine as a fundraiser for local community projects as well as educational and health-care initiatives in Agarfa, Ethiopia.
In a media release, the public is invited to enjoy food "prepared in the long-established, traditional ways of the Oromia Region of southeast Ethiopia," that will be made by volunteer cooks led by Partners in Ethiopia founder and rotary member Woinshet Bayssie, who grew up in Agarfa.
The menu will consist of different wots Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ traditional stews made of chicken, beef, vegetables, lentils or chickpeas Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ azifa lentil salad, injera flatbread and basmati rice, with all main dishes gluten free. There will also be a cash bar with beer, wine and cider available.
The event will be held at the Fifth Avenue Senior's Activity Centre on Saturday, March 29, with doors open at 5 p.m., and the buffet style Traditional Ethiopian Dinner at 6 p.m. That will be followed by a short introduction to their projects, an Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony, an Ethiopian dance lesson and silent auction at 7 p.m.
