A much-loved board game café in downtown Penticton has announced they are closing.

Meeples and Milkshakes Board Game Café opened on Westminster Avenue in 2020, providing people with a place to play board games while taking in some of the best milkshakes in town. The café also offered a food and dessert menu, and you could buy candies, popcorn and other treats at the table while you played.

The café has been very popular on the weekends and has gained a loyal fan base as well as regulars who come to play Dungeon and Dragons.

But the owners Cheryl and Jim Roepcke said it isn㽶Ƶֱt financially viable to keep going.

㽶ƵֱThis decision was incredibly difficult for us to make,㽶Ƶֱ they said on their Facebook page.

㽶ƵֱIt㽶Ƶֱs heartbreaking to close our doors, but our business is still not sustainable in this community. Opening Meeples and Milkshakes was a dream come true.㽶Ƶֱ

Comments have been pouring in about how much they will be missed and what a loss it is for the community. Many commented that the milkshakes were the best in town and others commented they have lots of great family memories there. Some said they were heartbroken because that had become their regular hang-out.

The Roepckes encourage people to stop by in the coming days to grab a milkshake and a game.

Jan. 14, will be the last day the cafe will be open. After that, will be open to help them sell the remaining inventory of board games.
