It was a full house at the annual BGC Okanagan Pink Shirt Day Breakfast in Kelowna on Feb. 26.
A sea of pink filed into the Laurel Packinghouse bright and early, to celebrate kindness, inclusion, and the power of lifting each other up on a day dedicated to promoting respect, empathy, and community.
This year BGC OkanaganÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s Building Futures campaign has a fundraising goal of $25,000, which will help with access to programs that teach children and youth valuable skills such as empathy, caring, inclusion, and community engagement.
According to BGC Okanagan, these programs also provide safe spaces and systemic opportunities for all children and youth in the community.
Following a breakfast made by the Okanagan ChefÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s Association, those in attendance were welcomed to listen to featuring keynote speaker Matteo Stewart, a three-time International TEDx Speaker, belonging practitioner, and senior inclusive leadership facilitator.
Stewart engaged the audience with funny stories from his past helping organize the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and tales of hardships he overcame as a young hockey player before he came out as 2SLGBTQ+.
