A mystery donor has stepped up in a big way, gifting the Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH) Auxiliary with more than $96,500.
Volunteers at the auxiliary say the funds will be directed toward the new oncology clinic at the hospital, which is set to open in July 2025.
"What makes this gift even more remarkable is that it came from a kind and compassionate member of our community Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥” someone the auxiliary members never had the opportunity to meet, but who believed deeply in their cause and wanted to leave a lasting impact on healthcare for residents," a press release reads.
"The auxiliary is grateful for this extraordinary gift but saddened that they cannot personally thank the donor for their remarkable generosity."
The donation will go toward the South Okanagan Similkameen Media Foundation's $10 Million Oncology Campaign.
Since fundraising efforts began in 2022, more than $5 million has been raised for the expanded cancer clinic. It will be located on the third floor of Penticton's hospital.
Funds will be used to enhance the clinicÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s capabilities by providing more nurses, additional treatment bays, and expanded mental health support.
Construction on the expanded facility is expected to wrap up in May 2025, before opening in July.
Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥œWe are profoundly grateful for the over 30 volunteers who comprise the PRH Auxiliary and have dedicated their valuable time to supporting the improvement of quality healthcare in the South Okanagan Similkameen," said Ian Lindsay, CEO of the SOS Medical Foundation.
