The NDP government has dropped its 2021 deadline for raising B.C.香蕉视频直播檚 minimum wage to $15 an hour, after objections from B.C. Green Party leader Andrew Weaver.
香蕉视频直播淲e are still committed to a $15-an-hour minimum wage to make life better for people in B.C.,香蕉视频直播 Labour Minister Harry Bains said Friday. 香蕉视频直播淗owever, we are a minority government and working with other parties means compromising sometimes while holding true to your values.香蕉视频直播
The Green-NDP minority government agreement included Weaver香蕉视频直播檚 pre-election commitment to establish a Fair Wages Commission, but did not include a deadline.
香蕉视频直播淭he Fair Wages Commission should determine the timeline for minimum wage increases based on evidence and thorough consultation with stakeholders,香蕉视频直播 Weaver said Aug. 15 when the NDP announced their target. 香蕉视频直播淭he commission must consult with small businesses, which are the backbone of our economy, to ensure that they can continue to thrive.香蕉视频直播
The $15 minimum wage target was first set by the B.C. Federation of Labour, which viewed the 2021 target as too slow.
Bains was also blasted by the B.C. Liberals for announcing a 50-cent increase in the minimum wage, which the previous government had already committed to. Chilliwack MLA John Martin said the NDP government is being vague about its plans to impose higher minimum wages on business.
香蕉视频直播淭he Fair Wage Commission and the 2021 promise look like another NDP charade,香蕉视频直播 Martin said. 香蕉视频直播淭hat香蕉视频直播檚 probably why Minister Bains didn香蕉视频直播檛 mention it in his news release. He knows that small businesses are going to get the short end of the stick and tried to pull a fast one.香蕉视频直播
