It will be full steam ahead for coffee enthusiasts as they cheer on their favourite at Dose Coffee, when Revelstoke hosts the Canadian AeroPress Championship Regional Qualifier.

The event will take place on July 19 at 4 p.m. at the "Dosetery", 1960 Big Eddy Road. The AeroPress Championship began as a way to find out who can make the best cup of coffee using an Aeropress. The first championship took place in 2008 in Oslo, Norway, and has since grown to a world-wide competition.

The competition now includes regional and national competitions which are run by independent hosts that span over 60 countries, with the finale of a World AeroPress Championship.

Lauren Webster, co-founder of Dose Coffee said that part of the reason the competition has been so successful is that it is "quite an accessible event."

"There's no restrictions and really anyone who enters has a chance, whether you're a coffee nerd or someone who is just getting started," said Webster.

Webster explained that the winner of the regional qualifier will go to the national championship which is being held in Calgary on Aug. 3.

After being approached by one of its wholesale partners, Eight Ounce Coffee, who organizes the Canadian championship, Webster and her team decided that bringing the regional qualifier to Revelstoke would be a fun event for the community.

Competitors coming to the competition will be from diverse coffee-making backgrounds.

"We certainly have owners of cafes and roasters travelling to the competition, we have Rooftop Coffee Roasters (from Fernie) coming, a coffee roaster in Vernon, a cafe in Kelowna, some competitors coming from Vancouver, and locals doing it just for fun, home brewers."

There will be three judges tasting the coffee. The owner of Neon Coffee Roaster, Kelowna, Dose Coffee's head chef, and one of the owners of Holm Coffee in the Big Eddy, Revelstoke.

Besides watching competitors do their best to wow the judges, spectators will be able to enjoy music as well as alcohol and food will be available for purchase.
